We aim to reduce our environmental footprint, even as we sustain our business and the communities in which we live and work. We recognize that our success depends on the conscientious use of the finite resources of our planet, and we maintain a deep commitment to responsible growth and actively integrating environmental priorities into our core operations.

Our Approach

Across Southwire, we prioritize meaningful environmental action and sustainable best practices to help secure a vibrant future for our business and future generations. We engage our global sites and teams to monitor and reduce our environmental impact. Our Carbon Zero objective drives us to reduce Southwire’s emissions by increasing our use of renewable energy and minimizing the energy we consume. We know proactive action to protect our environment and climate is critical to ensuring that Southwire can continue to fulfill its mission for the next 100 years.

Achieved validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for near-term emissions reduction goals across all three scopes

Deployed our Southwire Sustainability Playbook across all facilities

Partnered with Plug Power Inc. to implement a green hydrogen ecosystem at our new state-of-the-art Distribution Center in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas

Growing green

Achieve 100%
zero carbon energy (Carbon Zero) for our operations by 2025, compared to our 2018 baseline.

0.2%

Progress: Reached a 65.2% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and set new, SBTi-validated goals for Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions reductions.

*While this report reflects progress toward our goals in 2024, we have since set a new goal to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 54.8% and Scope 3 emissions by 30% from 2022 baselines by 2032.

Our Emissions Reduction Strategy Starts Here

  • Identify energy efficiency projects to modernize our operations and optimize production while reducing GHG emissions and costs

  • Leverage sustainable solutions such as EV infrastructure, renewable electricity, carbon offsets and renewable energy credits (RECs)

  • Implement initiatives to address our Scope 3 emissions, including two projects aimed at increasing circularity and minimizing value chain waste

  • Engage industry peers to identify and scale best practices

  • Factor sustainability into capital deployment decisions to position Southwire for sustainable growth

Capital Deployment & Modernization

Southwire’s leading wire and cable solutions are in high demand, and we are expanding our capabilities and footprint to meet the needs of customers and communities worldwide. Sustainability is embedded into all capital-related spending at Southwire, ensuring this is something we consider upfront when identifying new projects.

Capital Deployment Approach

  • PROACTIVE
    PLANNING

    1

with our teams using sustainability impact assessments for factors such as estimated energy use, waste generation and water discharge.

  • TARGETED
    FUNDING

    2

for energy efficiency projects to enable improvement across our sites.

  • PROACTIVE
    MAINTENANCE

    3

to extend the lifespans of existing equipment and minimize material waste.

Waste Management Approach

  • 1

    REDUCE

overall material usage by modernizing our facilities, streamlining our processes and designing products and packaging with their full lifecycle in mind.

  • 2

    REDESIGN

current packaging to support a circular economy, leverage options that are durable enough to be reused and use environmentally friendly materials.

  • 3

    RECYCLE

existing materials, such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastics and wood, to divert them from landfills.

  • 4

    REUSE

existing materials, such as empty reels and components from end-of-life products, to create "closed loop" systems that reduce operating waste and costs.

  • 5

    REPLACE

and embrace materials that are recycled, biodegradable or otherwise sustainable to reduce landfill waste and support a circular economy.

Our Water Management Strategy Starts Here

  • Conserving community water resources by focusing on efficiency

  • Maximizing water recirculation and reuse

  • Complying with – and when possible, exceeding – all regulatory requirements

  • Minimizing the output of physical or chemical contaminants

  • Monitoring water withdrawals and embracing sustainable withdrawal practices

  • Investing in targeted initiatives and modernization projects to optimize and reduce our water usage over time
