Developing the Business Leaders of Tomorrow

The Southwire Business Leadership Program (SBLP) is a strategic partnership with our University Systems College of Business. In SBLP, students are encouraged, motivated and mentored to contribute ideas toward meaningful business and community initiatives. These ideas – along with the projects that they inspire – will have a significant and positive impact on the organization and its workforce while allowing students to gain valuable experience with Southwire’s leadership team in support of its vision and long-term strategy.

Students apply, interview and are selected by a panel of UWG and Southwire employees to participate in a semester long onboarding experience. This is in preparation for a two-part internship assignment which will conclude in the fall semester of their senior year. Phase one will begin in January with each student identifying, or supporting, a current business need or opportunity. Phase two will begin in August and challenge the students to take the business opportunity identified in part one and create a meaningful three to five-year strategic outlook. The students will have the opportunity to share both Phase one and two of their project to the Southwire Executive Leadership Team.

Currently, we are looking to expand our collegiate partnerships to include more locations and colleges.
