Application & Features

CAMV™ C7® Tree Wire is self-supporting covered conductor with a carbon fiber composite core that is used in place of bare conductor in overhead primary distribution. Installed as an uninsulated conductor; however, covering is effective in preventing direct shorts and instantaneous flashovers should tree limbs or other objects contact conductors. Tree wire can have a significant effect in the prevention of wildfires caused by sparks from primary conductors slapping together or contacting tree limbs. Tree wire cables can be an effective solution to solve problems with existing bare conductor circuits without the need for alternatives such as aerial bundled or underground cables.

  • The lightweight, high strength, and low thermal expansion C7® carbon fiber core helps offset the additional weight and sag associated with typical covered conductor systems and provides corrosion protection, making this a high-performance replacement for bare conductor lines.
  • C7® Tree Wire was designed with the crew in mind. Familiar tools, fittings, and procedures ensure that crews can be confident in the safety and reliability of the C7® family. C7® core is stronger than a steel core and only 20% of the weight.
