Reactive vs Proactive: Ross Sexter and Fire Alarm Cable

Jul 10, 2017

When asked about this month's theme, Ross Sexter gave us his thoughts on how much of a difference the TAPPAN™ Fire Alarm Cable in a SIMpull® CoilPAK™ Wire Payoff is making.

When working with contractors, one of the things I always ask them is “what keeps you up at night?” Well, usually it has something to do with labor. When I saw the SIMpull® CoilPAK™ Wire Payoffs, it dawned on me that these could really help our contractors on another phase of the job. The majority of fire alarm systems in the United States are installed by electrical contractors, so making their job more efficient, safer, and profitable is our priority.

So, the Low Volt team went to work to see what we could do and we were able to get TAPPAN™ Fire Alarm Cable into the SIMpull CoilPAK packaging. As we took these out to the field for validation we heard over and over again how this was a major game changer because the packaging stops overspin, needs minimal pulling tension, and results in more productive pull.

With low volt cable, electrical contractors are used to flimsy boxes and spools of wire that constantly tangle. They are hard to set-up and manage the payoffs. But, by using the TAPPAN™ Fire Alarm Cable in a SIMpull® CoilPAK™ Wire Payoff, they are able to reduce their labor. The package design helps increase both safety and productivity by reducing the physical effort associated with material handling and pulling wire out of the package and through conduit.

We have been able to get great feedback from our contractors on how this has made their lives easier and more efficient. By reducing potential lifting, handling, and pulling injuries, pulling fire alarm has never been easier. The increased productivity stems from the packaging design, alleviating the burden of broken spools, injured workers, and cutting down on scrap – all wins for contractors and their clients.
