Southwire To Host Disaster Relief Collection For Victims of Louisiana Flooding

Aug 18, 2016

As historic levels of rain and rising floodwaters have impacted more than 40,000 homes and 70,000 citizens in Louisiana, Southwire’s Project GIFT will host a disaster relief collection, beginning on Monday, Aug. 22. The event will last until Wednesday, Aug. 24.

The collection will be held in the parking lot of the Walmart Supercenter in Carrollton, Ga., from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. during the three-day event.

“Many of our employees and friends in the west Georgia community have families in the Louisiana area who have been displaced through flooding and devastation,” said Kristian C. Whittington, Southwire’s manager of employee engagement and communications and Project GIFT coordinator. “Project GIFT began as an outlet to serve those suffering in the wake of disaster, and we continue to focus our efforts in that same spirit of giving back.”

Items accepted through the collection include bottled water, paper goods, cleaning supplies, nonperishable food, baby items, pet supplies, personal hygiene products, ice chests and more. Clothing will not be accepted.

In addition to the collection event in Carrollton, Southwire will also host drives in Bremen, Ind., and Mineral Wells, Texas. Supplies collected through these events will be distributed in partnership with Southwire customers in the Louisiana area.

“It has been proven over and over that our community shows its unity and strength during times of natural disaster,” said Whittington. “We challenge each and every member of our community to step up and help us fill as many tractor-trailers as possible.”
