Southwire Partners with West Ga. Habitat for Humanity for 43rd Home Build
A family in Carroll County will spend the holidays in a brand-new home, thanks to the efforts of Southwire’s Project GIFT, the company’s Veterans Network, West Georgia Habitat for Humanity and other community partners.
This year, as part of Southwire’s 75th anniversary celebration, Southwire partnered with Habitat for Humanity West Georgia to build a home for a deserving family.
Through fundraising efforts, Southwire's Veterans Network employee resource group and Project GIFT successfully secured enough donations to fully fund the home build, which broke ground in September of this year.
“I was so honored to be part of this project and so glad we could get the family settled before the holiday season really kicks in,” said Stefanie Anderson, senior giving back specialist. “Knowing we played a part in strengthening this family’s story and that our volunteers were able to share in that experience makes it even more special. It’s something I’ll never forget.”
This home build marks the 43rd home build for West Georgia’s Habitat for Humanity. West Georgia Habitat for Humanity is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide. The organization builds affordable homes around the world in partnership with families in need of a decent and affordable place to live. Habitat homebuyers help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage.
Andrew Johnson, a Marine Corps veteran and Veterans Network ERG team champion, said the idea to sponsor a home build for Habitat for Humanity came from a conversation he had with Brian Rasperger, VP of Transportation. Rasperger challenged the Veterans Network to re-engage with Habitat for Humanity in a bigger way.
The funds generated from the challenge not only fully covered the home build, but the home went to a family with close connections to the military.
“It started with an idea to fund a home,” Johnson said. “Before long, through vendor partnerships and generous donations, we surpassed our goal. It’s about making a difference for families while strengthening our relationships in the process.”
Sponsors such as RaLin also served as a partner in the build by donating their services as general contractor. Southwire partnered with several other sponsors including West Ga Supply, AM Stabilizers, Manner Polymers, Millennium Facilities, Madem Moorecraft, and many more.
“We are deeply grateful for Southwire’s Veterans Network and Southwire’s partnership and their investment in affordable housing,” said West Georgia Habitat for Humanity Director Jennifer Shunn. “Their sponsorship not only celebrates a remarkable company milestone of 75 years — it also honors veterans and provides a hand-up for a family striving for a brighter future.”
As Southwire concludes its 75th anniversary celebration, this project created the perfect opportunity to reflect on the company's legacy by joining forces with the community, giving back to a long-standing charitable partner and supporting a local family with their pursuit of home ownership.
