Charlie Murrah Elected to Aluminum Association Board of Directors

Oct 5, 2018

The Aluminum Association – the aluminum industry’s leading voice, providing global standards, business intelligence, sustainability research and industry expertise to member companies, policymakers and the general public – announced four additions to its Board of Directors at its 2018 annual meeting. Included in the elected Board members was Charlie Murrah, executive vice president and president of Southwire’s Power Systems and Solutions business group, who will serve on the Board until 2021.

Representing the U.S. and foreign-based companies and their suppliers throughout the value chain, the Association’s Board of Directors is comprised of top executives throughout the aluminum industry.

“For over eighty years, the Aluminum Association has been a premier trade association advocating the interests of aluminum producers and manufacturers,” said Murrah. “Southwire has enjoyed a long history with the Association and, having spent much of my own career in non-ferrous metals production and aluminum wire applications, I consider it a tremendous honor to lend Southwire’s voice to industry issues affecting our aluminum businesses.”

In addition to Murrah, Tolga Egrilmezer, vice president of sales and marketing at Rio Tinto, and Wes Oberholzer, chief executive officer of Smelter Service, were inducted on the Board of Directors Class of 2021, while John Wharton, senior vice president at Gresham Smith, will serve until 2020.

“It’s vital that we have an active and engaged Board of Directors to provide strategic guidance and vision for the association,” said Heidi Brock, president and CEO of the Aluminum Association. “Each of these new additions to the Board helps to strengthen that vision as we continue to advocate on behalf of the full U.S. aluminum industry value chain.”
