How do you change the batteries?

Please see the link below to the operating manual for the 40130N. When pressing down on the release tab, we would recommend a small flat head driver for easier access to the tab. http://www.southwiretools.com/tools/file.get.do?file_id=262

Once the tab has been pressed down, you should be able to separate the back portion of the tester from the main body.

I got a 40150N, brand new, and the battery cap will not twist off to put the batteries in.

Please explain what it means if the reader goes back and forth between indicating whether a wire is hot or not. The batteries are good, but it does this repeatedly.

We're putting in a new dimmer and we only have all black wires leading into the dimmer along with the ground wire what tool do we need to test for the live wire?

The safest way to find a live wire is by using a meter. The meter will be able to give you an actual voltage reading.

How do I change the batteries on my tester?

To change the batteries on the 40130N NCV, gently apply a bending force downward near the top of the device until you hear a click. Then pull the top of the away from the barrel to expose the battery. Please follow this link to find the device on our website: www.southwiretools.com/tools/tools/40130N.
