They work as intended but not everyone understands
When I bought these, the salesman was so enthused about them being reusable ties. I bought bag on his say so. I bundled some combination wrenches together with these ties so they would not scatter in the canvas go bag. I spent more time than I should have, trying to undo the ties. Remember, I believed that there was some way that these could be undone and used again.I thought that the little arm sticking out might be a key, so I tugged on it, HARD. The tie broke! Trying to be more careful, I still broke the next. I tried many ways to use the tab to unlock the rest of the ties. When I got home, I looked them up on the Southwire Website and it all made sense. I felt kind of dumb, but probably no more than other folks that bought these from that salesman. Now that I know how they work, I do like them. And now I can laugh at myself.
They are as tight as any other tie I would use in this length. The tab is a bit hard for these over 70 year old thumbs to grasp, but I can do it. I like that when the tie is in a blind spot, like deep in a cabinet where my hand blocks the view when I stick in cutters, I don't risk nipping wires while cutting the tie. I think that moments like these are what make these useful.
For what they are, I give them 5 stars. I will probably use these where they will be beneficial rather than for every job. With 1000 in a bag, an independent like me will have a supply for a long time. When the time comes, I'll buy these again because like other Southwire products, they are well made.
