On November 19, employees throughout Southwire celebrated International Men’s Day by wearing blue.

International Men’s Day is celebrated annually to highlight the positive value that men bring to the world, their families and communities. From being husbands and fathers to being positive role models, the impact of men in communities across the world is celebrated with this holiday.

“International Men’s day provides an opportunity for each of us to pause, reflect and celebrate all the incredible men that contributed to our success,” says Cara Herzog, Southwire’s director of diversity, equity and inclusion. “From our founder Roy Richards to our CEO Rich Stinson and all the men working across the company, we are so thankful for all that you have done to make Southwire the company that it is today.”

While International Men’s Day aims to highlight the positive aspects of the male role in the community, this year’s theme is focused on, “Better Health for Men and Boys.” Studies show that men are affected by five major health concerns:

1. Men have a suicide rate 3 times higher than women
2. 1 in 3 men have been the victims of domestic violence
3. Men on average die 4-5 years before women
4. Men are nearly twice as likely to suffer from lung cancer than women
5. Men are nearly twice as likely to suffer from heart disease than women

In honor of International Men’s Day, FUSE, a collection of Southwire’s Employee Resource Groups, will be donating to Movember, a 501c3 nonprofit organization that focuses on men’s health. Since 2003, Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the world. This donation was given as an extension of Southwire’s commitment to create an inclusive environment that recognizes the value and talent of diverse perspectives, regardless of gender and ethnicity.
