Last year, Southwire committed $1 million dollars of its charitable funding in response to the pandemic, and now, the company is expanding its COVID-19 giving back efforts into 2021 with an additional $500,000 focus on hunger and education, set to take place in April and July of this year.

“Southwire is committed to supporting the communities in which our employees live and work and, in response to the ongoing pandemic, we are once again expanding that commitment into 2021 with direct support to help COVID-19 relief efforts,” said Fernando Esquivel, Southwire’s EVP of HR. “This global challenge is not over yet, and we are humbled to have the resources, time and talent to give back to those who need it most.”

In continuation of last year’s $1 million give to COVID-19 needs, this year will focus on providing meals and school supplies to Southwire’s 21 Giving Back locations. By the end of April, $250,000 will be provided to Feeding America®, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, and other similar international organizations in our Giving Back communities. For every dollar given, Feeding America provides 10 meals to those in need.

“Southwire has generously donated an amazing amount of purchase power to the Denton Community Food Center out of their interest in the local community,” said Tanci Paulson, outreach coordinator and board member at the Denton Community Food Center. “This donation was unsolicited – completely unexpected. Such a sustaining gift. As the current pandemic continues, more and more families are stretched, having to make choices between food and other basic needs. Southwire has made a commitment to the community and to the Food Center. Thank you for teaming with us to improve the lives of our neighbors.”

In July, the focus will turn to education with Southwire’s annual Back to School event. For the past 17 years, Southwire has held Back to School events at many Giving Back communities across the company, but this year’s efforts will meet last year’s largest impact ever through a committed contribution of $250,000. With this commitment, the company will be able provide 30,000 bags of free school supplies to families and children in our local communities who need them most.

In addition to these COVID-19 relief efforts, Southwire continues to support other focused giving back initiatives such as disaster relief, sustainability, diversity, equity and inclusion and more.
