Southwire Canada is proud to announce that it was recently named on the Best Workplaces™ in Manufacturing list, which comes five months after being named a Great Place to Work® (GPTW) Certified™ Organization.

Southwire received this recognition after a thorough and independent analysis conducted by GPTW, the world’s leading research and consulting firm dedicated to helping organizations assess and develop their workplaces, cultures and employee engagement. The certification showcases the company’s commitment to its employees, communities and other stakeholders, and in order to be eligible for the list, organizations must be Great Place to Work Certified in the past year and work primarily in the manufacturing industry.

According to GPTW, trust is the main ingredient in building a great place to work for all, which is why the organization uses the Trust Index© — based on the Great Place to Work Trust Model© — to measure the levels of trust in the workplace according to five key dimensions: Credibility, Respect, Fairness, Pride and Camaraderie. GPTW uses this framework to define a great workplace as one where employees trust the people they work for, have pride in the work they do and enjoy the people with whom they work.

"Southwire welcomes and treats all employees fair regardless of their ethnic backgrounds,” said Vincent Bananzi, manager of Southwire’s Toronto Customer Service Center (CSC). “Southwire is not just about profits; they truly appreciate and care about employee well-being, which, to me, is the biggest strength of the organization.”

Over the course of two weeks, more than 80% of Southwire Canada employees completed the GPTW survey, providing their thoughts on the company’s performance in these five areas, and the organization surpassed the certification threshold by eight percent. The company performed highest in the areas of Pride and Camaraderie, and 75% of respondents indicated that, “taking everything into account, [they believe Southwire] is a great place to work.”

“What I love about Southwire’s culture is the supportive atmosphere that helps you to feel safe and confident to try a new strategy. If it doesn't work, you’re encouraged to try again and feel more empowered,” said Gavin Dunbar, Calgary CSC supervisor.

Southwire has always believed that its employees are its greatest asset, and achieving the Great Place to Work certification reaffirms this belief, as Southwire achieved this certification based solely on its employees’ feedback and survey responses.

"We are thrilled to be recognized on the list this year along with other Best Workplaces in Manufacturing,” said Alex Couckuyt, Southwire Canada’s director of operations. “It wouldn’t have been possible without our employees who truly are The People Behind the Power™ at Southwire Canada. This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our employees."
