Denton Chamber of Commerce Celebrates Southwire’s Commitment to Community

Nov 12, 2018

Following a successful integration, the Denton Chamber of Commerce welcomed Southwire to the city of Denton, Texas with a ceremonial ribbon cutting on Monday, Nov. 12. Southwire employees and leaders, Chamber members and community representatives gathered to celebrate and share a meal.

Southwire, one of North America’s largest wire and cable producers, acquired the Denton facility with the purchase of United Copper Industries in September of 2016. The 500,000 square-foot campus, which includes a recent expansion, broadened the company’s manufacturing capabilities in its core building wire products segment and enhanced Southwire's geographical footprint, increasing the company’s ability to respond favorably to customer growth in key markets.

Since 2016, the Denton facility has fully integrated into the Southwire family and made significant safety improvements, as well as increased focus on employee engagement and culture, enhanced inventory management, worked to become landfill-free and modernized equipment. In addition, the facility completed a 40,000-square-foot customer service center expansion in October of 2017.

“The Denton team is an instrumental part of Southwire’s business,” said Tim Reid, Plant Manager. “The increase in production capacity allows us to better serve our customers, but the employees at Denton are the magic. I believe that our focus on engagement and modernization is continuing to create a strong culture of inclusion and trust at our facility.”

Aligning with the company’s focus on sustainability, Southwire maintains a strong commitment to Denton through Project GIFT®, the company’s non-profit employee volunteer organization. Southwire’s Denton team has participated in three community events in 2018, including a Back to School event where Project GIFT volunteers gave out bags of school supplies to local students.

“We are proud to have a team and a facility in Denton,” said Rich Stinson, Southwire’s President and CEO. “It was an honor to be present for this week’s ribbon cutting, as we continue to strengthen our relationship with the community here. We remain dedicated to our employees, our customers and our communities, and the efforts we are making in Denton reflect that commitment.”

As the company continues to grow its relationship with the local community, leaders in Denton are already building pathways for partnership and success.

“Southwire and the Denton Chamber of Commerce share the objectives of wanting to grow organically, create more jobs, and, ultimately, build more revenue,” said Jeff Bowerman, Denton Chamber of Commerce Ambassador. “It was an honor to participate in today’s ceremony celebrating the commitment that Southwire has made to the Denton business community as well as Southwire’s appreciation for their opportunity here in Denton.”
