Great data tester
Used this on a couple jobs it’s very rugged and feels built well works flawlessly. I like it comes with all the adaptors you need. Highly recommend this data tester. Like that the other part of tester stores in handle of unit.

Easy to use
I bought this to replace another tester that was acting up. No frills, but easy to use and works fine. My son borrowed it to run cat5 in his house. He was able to quickly find a couple of ends that he had misfired.

Useful and compact
Great tester. Compact, intuitive, easy to use. Comes with test leads. Would be nice to have come with a small case. Also, a F-connector on the receiver end would eliminate the concern of losing the test leads.

Great Product!
This is a great tester. Small compact size means it doesnt take up much room in your tool bag, even fits in your pocket. Simple to operate. Comes nicely packaged and even includes batteries.

Great size for fitting in the Southwire tool pouch

Nice tool

Good size and quality
This is the first Southwire tool I've owned and I'm impressed. It feels good in the hand, is solid and seems well built. I own other cable testers (one with an LCD screen) but I like the LEDs better. They seem quicker and more efficient (for what I do anyhow). Four green lights and your good to go. I've used another brand (two small "boxes") for years. I like them, but I'm always fishing in my bag for either the remote or the main tester. I like that the M550 has the remote inserted in the main unit. I also like that that this tester will allow me to test coax cables as well, even though is a feature I won't use much. And I like the quality of the included patch cables and adapters. I'm very happy with the purchase.
Note to those who may have trouble with pulling out the remote. I'm older with dry hands so I can understand that this can be an issue. What I've found is that, by turning the M550 over so that you grip the round "indentation" with your thumb and the front "ledge" with your index finger, you can get a stronger hold on the remote and it comes out easier. At least it works well for me.
I would definitely recommend this tester to others.

I connect the test unit to both ends of the network cable and I get no lights. I connect it to a patch cord and it shows all wires are correct. What does it mean when there are no lights? I have tested to make sure I am on the right data cable.

Every Cat 5 cable that I test with my M550 tester, I get 4 flashing red led's for the twisted pairs, and a constant red Short light, yet the cables work find. Is my tester faulty?

My M550’s led indicator for short comes on for all cables known good ones and the included jumper. This should not be happening according to the manual and is very frustrating (have reterminated a few cables before noticing the trend and testing). Help.

Do you sell the transmitter end of your cat5e testers separately? Example- have each camera lead with a transmitter and use the testing device at head end to test all runs without having to keep moving one piece to each camera.
