Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product! Excellent product! So easy to use! Great display! Ignore the negative reviews. Simple rule of thumb, don't break it and don't lose the remote. But a replacement remote is available by calling Southwire's number, or just buy a new one for about $50. The other negative review complained of not receiving a manual in the package. Simple solution, download the manual from the website. The unit does produce tones, but the optional Amplifier Probe is required, if you need that feature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Tool I love this tool! Its a great way to diagnose your cables! It finds crossover wires and shorted wires and wires that are just not making connection! It has many features that are very impressive for a diagnostic tool for ethernet wiring. I have used this device and have found faults in old wiring and anything you could imagine that would go on with Cat-5 or Cat-6 Wiring including Telco wires. It does it all! I would really advise anyone who wanted a good product for cable mapping to use this device! It's perfect for the job!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy. You can not get replacement remotes. Spend the extra money for something better that has service and parts available. If you lose/break your remote you are out. The answers in the question section are to waste your time calling them to be told this.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Flashes 4 and 8 I used the M400TP less than a dozen times to verify cat5 lines in my house, and yesterday & today it reads 4 and 8. I can see from other reviews this is a common problem.

The tone generator function is versatile, allowing the selection of which wires to energize with the tracing tone. A separate Amplifier Probe is required, if you intend to use that feature.

Used once on one cable. Went to use again, and the screen lights up but is blank or the 4 and 8 come on and blink. Changed batteries and same. What can be done to fix this issue? This is my first experience with Southwire and so far not a good one.

I need to trace a data cable from a PC back to a LAN switch. When connecting the M400TP @ PC patch cable, w/ switch end connected to switch, should the warble be silenced when connected? Using a wand, as soon as patch cable is unplugged, warble returns.

When the signal stops being generated, is the cable connected into the switch? I would try removing that from the switch end and try picking the signal up again. If the cable is plugged into the switch while sending a tone that may nullify the tone.
