Long enough to hit the building next door
I received this bit close to two months ago. It has been used on multiple different jobs, in multiple different drills, by multiple different people, new work/ old work, and the impressions left are pretty consistent. I have not put it side by side with a competitors bit, but for some reason this seems longer than usual (either that or the wood studs be are thinner but I doubt it) This is great as it reduces the amount of times that I had to line up holes to meet in the middle by drilling from both sides of a ganged up stud or thick object. Brand new the bit is nice and as of current, seems to be holding sharpness performance fairly well. One unexpected positive is the plastic tube that the bit comes in is still lasting and is great for preventing dulling/damging when stored with other metal bits in travel, and helps prevent damage to the canvas bag that I personally store and carry my bit in. The only negative thing I noticed is that the threaded worm/tip seems to be prematurely wearing/weakening. Hitting nails and screws is both inevitable and unavoidable in this field so even though I know that making a bullet proof auger bit would not be economically viable, surely this was considered during design. If not this is in need of improvement as Ive had the same issue on other southwire bits. Overall, Southwire has made another good quality tool and I am happy with this again.
