The diamond space at the tip of the strippers is getting bigger and when the strippers are in the locked position the gap between the dial and the handle is also getting bigger. Is there any way to tighten them up ??

When not in use, should I store this V-Notch Wire Stripper in the closed position with the lock engaged and the spring taut, or should I store it unlocked and open with the spring at rest?

It is best to store locked.

Yes, I can easily see and move the dial. But what does it align to? There is no marking, or indention to align your choice of gauge to. What am I missing?

Located on the dial are flat edges. When you align the flat edge of the dial with the flat side right handle that will determine which gauge you are set on.

Obviously my spell checker made mincemeat of my previous question. It should have read: What do you ALIGN the dial to when selecting the gauge desired? I can see no indention or marking.

On the left side of the handle below the lock, there is a multi-position dial allows you to easily set desired AWG size.
