Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Compact Wire Stripper I needed a new wire stripper and have been purchasing other Southwire Tools of which I have been happy with! I decided to get the Southwire Compact Wire Stripper and have been pleased with how well it fits in my hand and the great job it does on stripping wire. It is spring loaded which is nice and has a lock to close the tool to protect the wire cutter edges. The tool itself is clearly marked with safety features like wear protective eye wear and never use on live circuits. Not that anyone would use a tool inappropriately! I've only had this for a week but expect that the Southwire Tools quality will be there for me for a long time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from STRIPPER FAR EXCEEDED MY EXCEPTATION Having received the S1018STR Compact wire stripper, a week ago, i put it thru its paces stripping 18 thru 10 gauge wire and was quite surprised that that the stripper never nicked stranded wire that most have done in the past. The item is well thought out, engineered, and made with superior materials, to be a nearly maintenance free [stainless] tool. The teeth at the end is a nice addition, the return spring is robust, and the lock works without undue effort, and the handles are quite comfortable to use for a full days work. My thought that the grip might be slightly longer, but in keeping with the compact scheme, this item is a must have. Vic

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice compact size; easy color to find in toolbox! This compact wire stripper is a nice looking tool and the yellow makes it easy to find in my toolbox. The cutters worked well though you still have to rotate the cutters or squeeze and rotate so the wire insulation cuts all the way through. One thing a bit confusing is the markings on either side of the gauge slots. When you first look at them the number doesn't match across from it and until you see the note at bottom of cutters saying this side solid wire and other side stranded wire it is a bit confusing. The whole wire cutter at base of the tool works very good cutting pieces of wire off with minimal effort.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Grip and structure of blade First of all I want say that like that extra seal around handle, gray color that is the under layer that will help keep that yellow rubber on because I have used in the past Klein stripper and it come off also I would like to add feature I love that the blade is curved and sharp not flat it makes for a smoother cut and easy on the hand and one last thing the spring that connect handle I like too because it long and has more turns on each side that will keep both handles working at point unfortunately the Klein spring is small and that spring is always popping out thank for making a good tool

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 6" COMPACT WIRE STRIPPER Model # S1018STR I received this tool for review on 1/14/17 and after using it to install some receptacles and wall switches I found this wire stripper to be superior wire stepping tool. I espically like the fact that when you clamp down on a wire to strip it you don't have to ring the tool back and forth around the wire to strip it. you just clamp down on the wire and it cuts the insulation all around the wire. and strips off the insulation cleanly. I would highly recommend this wire stripper to all electricians.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent overall Got this tool a week or so ago, strips wire easily, works extremely well. The only drawback that I see is that the handles are a little small for my hands, the handles could stand to be a little longer

Dont laugh. after cutting insulation, how do you remove the covering

Asked by: nina
After cutting the insulation, you may have to gently rotate the wire within the stripping hole (or the wire stripper around the wire, whichever is easier).Pull the wire stripper towards the cut end of the wire to remove the insulation.

Strippers work well, easy to strip all gauges, solid & stranded, just curious though . . What are the serrated tips for, I’ve been using them to help pull insulation off, but the holes are really small, are these for smaller gauges?

Asked by: Bazzbozz12
The serrated tips are for gripping wire more easily.
