Presented by the Women in NECA (WIN) and Future Leaders, a roundtable session of industry leaders met to discuss diversity and inclusion within the electrical contracting workforce. Amongst the panel of leaders was Norman Adkins, Southwire's Group President, Construction Systems and Solutions.
The panelists discussed the importance of incorporating inclusivity and promoting diversity in best practices as evidenced by experiences within their company's work cultures. "Embracing diversity and inclusion is a moral imperative of companies like Southwire," stated Adkins. "More diverse teams perform consistently better over a longer period of time."Adkins spoke about Southwire’s mission of fostering an inclusive environment that recognizes the value and talent of diverse perspectives. As of 2017, six employee resource groups (ERGs) are actively promoted within Southwire. Adkins is the Executive Sponsor of Spectrum, an ERG which focuses on inclusivity, diversity, and the empowerment of all people of color. “I am proud to be the Executive Sponsor of Spectrum, as I believe that the development and engagement of Southwire’s entire spectrum of employees makes us a stronger organization.
