On May 23, 2017, SIMpull® Cable-in-Conduit (CIC) received the Plastics Pipe Institute's Power & Communications Division Project of the Year. This is the third year in a row that Southwire has won this award. Plastic Pipe Institute (PPI) is a major trade association which represents all segments of the plastic pipe industry. Michael Perry of Southwire submitted the project and accepted the award from the PPI President Tony Radoszewski at its Annual Meeting in Palm Beach, Florida. A total of four projects and five individuals were honored.

The project was to install over 8700 feet of different sizes of CIC to hook up power to multiple housing units in a small town in Texas. The ground was trenched and multiple runs of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) CIC were laid next to each other. The install transitioned to PVC pipe for stub ups into housing panels and vaults.

Davidson Electrical, the contractors who worked on the project, were impressed with the time and cost savings that CIC granted them. The Executive VP relayed "it not all about cost savings. CIC allows you to do things you cannot do with PVC and building wire. Mostly about time on target. Our guys are usually out of town which means there is a travel cost and per diem tacked on to every hour of labor. In addition this time of year it rains a lot. How long the ditch is open is a critical issue."
