Southwire Underground Transmission Solutions now offers a full spectrum of high-voltage underground transmission cables and accessories that provide reliability, scalability and flexibility. Southwire added high-voltage and extra high-voltage cable products to its portfolio and expanded its capacity to produce a broader range of underground transmission cables when it purchased a high-voltage plant in Huntersville, North Carolina.

Southwire Underground Transmission Solutions not only includes a full-line of cables, but also provides technical leadership in the power supply chain market. It starts with a complete line of exclusive accessories from Kabeldon and nkt cables for 69 kV to 400 kV cables, and includes the tools and equipment that make every installation go smoother.

End to End Solution

The Huntersville plant has a full-range of support services including engineering, project management, installation, and testing. The plant features a 430-foot extrusion tower – approximately one and one-half football fields high. The “tower of power” centers the stranded metal conductor until the extruded core cools to ensure concentricity of the cable.

“The Huntersville plant fits nicely with Southwire’s family of manufacturing facilities and customer service centers in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Honduras and China,” added Murrah. “Southwire can now provide our customers with a single source solution for underground transmission lines from end to end.”
