Southwire & WESCO Come Together to Build Homes for a Day

May 11, 2016

A volunteer effort has been launched to provide housing for low-income Canadian families and Southwire Canada and WESCO employees have volunteered as general laborers. The employees will be painting, hammering, climbing ladders, laying down flooring, putting up two by fours, they will be sharing their time and talent.

Southwire Canada is North America’s largest leading manufacturer of wire and cable and WESCO is a leading distributor of electrical construction products and electrical and industrial maintenance.

“We strive to improve the quality of life in the communities in which we work.  This is our second year partnering with Habitat for Humanity and we are excited to partner with WESCO”

says Axel Schlumberger, President of Southwire Canada. “In addition to volunteering both WESCO and Southwire are donating electrical wire products so it’s an additional source of pride for us both.  We will continue to build this partnership with Habitat for Humanity and our channel partners in the GTA.”

“It is an honour to be able to work with two great organizations – Southwire Canada and Habitat for Humanity – to do something worthwhile for low-income families. Our employees are proud to be able to serve on this project. It’s another great way we can give back to the communities where we live and work,” said Nelson Squires, Group Vice President and General Manager for WESCO Distribution Canada.

For both Southwire and WESCO it means giving to those in need, not only by sharing our financial resources, but also by sharing our time and talent.

Habitat for Humanity broke ground on its first home in Canada in 1985. Now, each year about 63,000 volunteers work with 56 Habitat for Humanity affiliates nationwide, helping to break the cycle of poverty for hundreds of low-income Canadian families.

Habitat for Humanity Canada is a member of Habitat for Humanity International, which has built, rehabilitated, repaired or improved more than 600,000 houses worldwide, providing safe, decent and affordable shelter for more than 3 million people.
