On April 1, Southwire and Envision Racing co-hosted a dynamic event that brought together innovation, performance and a shared commitment to sustainability. The experience highlighted both organizations’ ongoing work toward a net-zero future while engaging attendees through hands-on activities.

The day began at EchoPark in Hampton, Georgia. Formula E World Champion and Envision Racing driver Sébastien Buemi welcomed participants and shared insights on the future of racing, including the role of electrification in reducing emissions and advancing sustainable transportation solutions.

Participants then had the unique opportunity to get behind the wheel during an exclusive drive experience with Buemi, offering a firsthand look at the speed, precision and innovation behind electric racing technology.

In addition to the on-track excitement, the event emphasized the importance of developing future talent and fostering innovation. Southwire’s Chief Inclusion Officer and Interim Strategic Talent Lead Cara Herzog led a panel discussion with innovative Georgia Tech students focused on the future of motorsports and the evolving landscape of sustainable engineering. These students, as well as faculty, were also able to display their engineering feats which highlighted a bright future for generations to come.

“Sitting with students who are actively shaping the future of motorsport was a powerful reminder of why our partnership with Envision Racing matters,” said Herzog. “Together, we are investing in innovation, sustainability and talent, ensuring the next generation has the opportunity to lead cleaner, smarter and more inclusive solutions that will define the future of racing and the industries that support it.”

The day concluded with an evening networking reception and panel discussion at the British Consul General’s Residence in Atlanta, where industry leaders gathered to continue conversations around decarbonizing transport and infrastructure while strengthening cross-industry collaboration.

“Bringing together industry, academia and elite sport is how we’re moving the needle on decarbonization. This event in partnership with Southwire and Georgia Tech reflects exactly what Envision Racing stands for: using the platform of racing to accelerate innovation, inspire future talent and drive meaningful action towards an electric future,” said James Mercer, Commercial Director of Envision Racing. “Seeing students and business leaders engage so directly with the technology and ideas shaping tomorrow is incredibly powerful, and it’s through collaborations like this that we can turn ambition into real impact.”

As part of their ongoing commitment to sustainability and innovation, Southwire and Envision Racing will continue the conversation later this month, partnering to bring awareness to team members across Southwire.
