Accessories

Southwire HV Solutions is proud to be a North American supplier of Kabledon and nkt cables' line of high voltage cable accessories. Accessories use premolded LSR stress cone technology throughout.

Available Accessories:

  • Outdoor terminations with porcelain or silicone rubber composite insulators
  • GIS and Transformer terminations to IEC 60859
  • Dry Plug and Socket compact switchgear and transformer terminations through 145 kV
  • Premolded cable splices
  • Splice options include shield breaks, metal casing, DTS fiber integration, capacitive PD detection ports, bolted or compression connectors, cable size transition
  • Transitions between different cable insulation types are available

Other Considerations:

  • For termination of a cable and connecting the conductor to the overhead lines, terminations are necessary. For this purpose the field strength at the end of the outer semi-conducting layer must be reduced and be controlled in such a manner that no discharges will occur. Other important properties which must be fulfilled are:
    • Current carrying connection for conductor and screen/sheath
    • Protection against ingress of moisture
    • Relief of inner and outer mechanical forces
    • Insulation level must be the same as for the cable.
  • Outstanding features of the silicone rubber insulation material are:
    • UV and ozone resistance
    • Durable water rejection
    • Weather and aging resistance
    • Non-flammable, self-extinguishing, heat resistant
    • Applicable for use at temperatures between -50 C and +180 C
    • High elasticity
    • High tracking resistance
    • Unlimited storage life
    • Friendly to the environment
