USE Sample Specifications


SPECIFICATION FOR 600 VOLT UNDERGROUND CABLE

1. SCOPE

  
1.1. This specification covers cables for 600 volt secondary underground distribution with and without a HD polyethylene conduit purchased by Greystone Power Corp. that are suitable for direct burial in wet or dry locations or duct installation and consists of one, two or three insulated phase conductors and one insulated neutral conductor cabled together with no binder or covering.

2. GENERAL

  
2.1. The cable shall meet all applicable provisions of the Insulated Cable Engineers Association (ICEA) Standard ANSI/ICEA S-105-692 “Standard for 600 Volt Single Layer Thermoset Insulated Utility underground Distribution Cables”: except when they conflict with the requirements of this specification.

3. CONDUCTORS

  
3.1. Conductor shall be EC grade (1350) aluminum, ¾ hard drawn (H16 or H26) or hard drawn (H19) aluminum meeting all applicable requirements of Part 2 of ANSI/ICEA S-105-692.

4. STRAND SEPARATOR

  
4.1. A separator, such as Mylar, may be used. If used, the separator shall be applied between the conductor and the insulation, it shall be suitably identified so its presence will be known and it shall be easily removable.

5. INSULATION

  
5.1. The insulation shall consist of a single layer of extruded black polyethylene meeting the requirements of ANSI/ICEA S-105-692. The insulation thickness shall be in accordance with ANSI/ICEA S-105-692. 

   5.2. If requested by the purchaser, the above cable type shall meet the requirements of Underwriters’ Laboratories, Incorporated, for Type USE 600 volt single conductor cable.

6. MULTICONDUCTOR CABLES

  
6.1. Multiconductor cables (such as triplexed construction) are acceptable provided:

      6.1.1. All conductors including the neutral are insulated in accordance with the above requirements with respect to material and thickness of insulation.

      6.1.2. The assembly shall meet the requirements of ANSI/ICEA S-105-692.

7. CABLE-IN-CONDUIT

  
7.1. When specified the cable-in-conduit (CIC) items shall be manufactured with a red high density polyethylene conduit in accordance with ASTM D3485 and NEMA TC-7 (Standard Wall).
