When you need maximum protection for industrial wiring – without the cost of time-consuming conduit installations – check out Southwire’s ARMOR- X® for your most demanding 600V, medium-voltage (MV), control and instrumentation applications.
Flexible, easy-to-install ARMOR-X protects conductors with a seamless, welded aluminum sheath that’s impervious to petrochemicals, caustics and acids. It’s even UL-listed for Class I, Division 1 applications – the most difficult hazardous locations.
“ARMOR-X is a complete cable system,” says Brian McCardel, Southwire director of construction projects. “You can install it in cable trays, bury it, embed it in concrete or hang it from a messenger. You can put in multiple conductors in less time than it takes to cut and install the empty pipe.”
ARMOR-X insulation choices include EPR, XLPE and Southwire’s low-smoke, non-halogen SOLONON. Choose optional jackets of PVC or low-smoke, non-halogen SOLONON. Jackets can be colored, oil-resistant, sunlight-resistant and flame-resistant.
ARMOR-X power cables are available in voltage ratings up to 35kV, three- and four-conductor constructions, and conductor sizes up to 750kcmil. MV ARMOR-X is listed for 105° C wet or dry. 600V ARMOR-X is listed for 90° C wet or dry.
One 600V ARMOR-X option includes three symmetrically placed grounds to reduce problems associated with pulse-width modulated ac drives. The seamless welded armor provides a low-impedance ground path for troublesome high-frequency waveforms in these systems.
For installations of smaller sizes that require extreme bending into tight corners, and areas requiring multiple bends during installation, turn to ARMOR-XTRA ®
ARMOR-XTRA’s proprietary corrugation profile delivers more than twice the flexibility endurance of other armored products on the market – with equal or lower bending force. You get improved installation time that leads directly to lower installation costs.
ARMOR-X shines in applications with long runs. Southwire can deliver lengths of tens of thousands of feet without a joint in the armor. Reel-length runs mean fewer fittings than conduit—and fewer opportunities for leaks.
ARMOR-X is listed for marine use by the American Bureau of Shipping, and carries a UL 1309 listing for Marine Shipboard applications. This tough environmental test includes salt-water immersion.
You can put ARMOR-X instrumentation and control cable just about anywhere. It’s NEC approved for non-power-limited fire protective signaling cable (NPLF).
Control cable constructions offer AWG #14 and AWG #10 conductors, and up to 11 conductors. Instrumentation configurations use AWG #16 7-strand conductors to provide up to 36 shielded twisted pairs or up to 12 shielded twisted triads with an overall aluminum-Mylar shield with drain wire.
“When you need the utmost in reliability, specify ARMOR-X for complete protection,” says McCardel. “Southwire has the most complete line of seamless armored cable in the industry, and it’s readily available from Southwire distributors, or direct from Southwire Master Service Centers.”
