Reducing Our Carbon Footprint
Global warming is probably the most debated environmental issue of our time. Many scientists believe emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases resulting from human activity affect the worldwide climate.
Every single person has an impact on global warming, and many are trying to do what they can to reduce their impacts. Businesses have a bigger impact and a bigger opportunity to reduce it.
Companies measure their impacts on global warming by calculating their carbon footprint. Emissions of various greenhouse gases are calculated, and then converted into carbon dioxide equivalents.
The graph shows Southwire’s carbon footprint for 2009. Nearly all of our footprint results from our use of electricity and combustion of natural gas. Southwire is taking steps to reduce our overall carbon footprint, and we anticipate meeting our corporate goal of reducing carbon footprint by 10% by the end of 2010 (from a 2007 baseline).
