Southwire delivers power – literally – throughout the world. But the relationship flows both ways. Through their support, the communities where we have facilities deliver power to Southwire. And so it is in these communities that we focus our effort to give back. One in three students starting first grade in a Carroll County, Georgia classroom this fall will not graduate. Hoping to cut that number, Southwire and the Carroll County Schools created 12 for Life, an innovative partnership that seeks to place students in danger of dropping out of school in real jobs, allowing them to earn wages and credit toward a diploma.

Southwire’s Project GIFT (Giving Inspiration for Tomorrow) team includes more than 70 members who volunteer their time with Special Olympics, beautification efforts and other opportunities. Each year, the team stages a school supply program – which provided bags of supplies to 4,500 local students in 2007 – and works with Toys for Tots, collecting some 6,000 in the last two years. Employees also are encouraged to take advantage of the company’s community involvement policy, which allows time off for volunteer efforts.
