New Steel Reel Policy
Due to increasing pressures from the steel industry both in pricing and availability, we find it necessary, going forward, to utilize better methods of tracking the movement and recovering the cost of our steel reels.
Southwire will be recording steel reels as an inventory item that flows through the Southwire production facilities as a raw material. Each reel will have a unique identity for the life of the reel. With this change, the accountability and responsibility for each reel will be much more defined than in the past and will provide visibility via Accounts Receivable, the Shop Floor System, as well as Q-Service.
In order to implement this change to our systems, we must also change our accounting systems to maintain compliance. The specific reel payment terms will be provided on the invoice. Sales tax if applicable will also be included on the invoice.
If the reels are returned within the specified terms, a credit will be issued for the amount of the original reel invoice – including sales tax if applicable.
If the payment term expires, the fee for the reel is due or the reel may be returned for the credit of the original reel invoice – including sales tax if applicable.
If the payment term expires and the reel is not returned or the fee is not paid within 90 days of the term expiration, the customer risks forfeiting any future credit for the reel and the customer will become delinquent in their account.
STEEL REELS/RETURNABLE PROPERTY
1) Steel Reels are often required for transportation and storage of product. Each reel will have an associated charge. Southwire will reimburse customer for the charge of the reel if reel is returned in a specified timeframe as outlined below.
2) Reels should be returned within 90 days from specified date on invoice.
3) Reels should be returned in good condition. Normal wear is expected; charges are made only for “exceptional damage” (that which makes the reel unusable through abuse or unauthorized modifications) as determined by Southwire.
Prompt notification of reels available for return should be given to Southwire’s Steel Reel Manager at 1-866-SW-REELS, swreels@southwire.com or www.southwire.com/reels.
Notification should specify:
-Original consignee
-Date shipped
-Charge invoice number
-Serial numbers of reels to be returned
4) No reels should be returned without prior consent from Southwire. Upon receipt of return notification, Southwire will provide customer with complete shipping instructions. Charges incurred over and above the least-cost mode of return (as determined by Southwire) by unauthorized return shipments, may be charged to the customer.
