Southwire Ranks 6th on INFOWEEK 500 Listing

Wire-Maker is the Top Manufacturing Company in This Year’s Ranking

(Carrollton, Ga.– September 25, 2008) – Southwire Company ranks sixth among the nation’s most innovative users of technology and is the highest-ranking manufacturing company, according to a new listing by InformationWeek magazine.

The year’s InfoWeek 500 list marks the first time Southwire has been among the top 10 and is its seventh-straight appearance in the ranking. The company finished ahead of such household names as General Motors, Chevron, Dell, Sun Microsystems, Fed/Ex and Unisys.

“Being included among the nation’s top 10 technology users is a major accomplishment and an honor for our company,” said Phil Tuggle, Southwire’s vice president of information technology. “Our company was built on the spirit of innovation and we are proud to carry on that tradition.”

Southwire uses technology as a competitive advantage to provide added value for its customers, according to Tuggle.

“We focus on making it easy to do business with Southwire,” he said. “Our project list remains full of efforts to create new services, improve delivery and facilitate information flow for our customers.”

That strategy of using technology to make it easier for people to do business with Southwire goes beyond online catalogs and podcasts. It also means having the right people for the job.

“Our IT employees have and average of 15 years of experience with our company,” Tuggle said. “That experience and business knowledge are key to how we innovate new ways of applying  technology. Our people are the ones who make the technology work successfully.”

Now in its 20th year, the InfoWeek 500 listing tracks the technology, strategies, investments and administrative practices of America’s best-known companies. The list is unique among corporate rankings because it spotlights the power of innovation in information technology, rather than simply identifying the biggest IT spenders.

“For 20 years, the InformationWeek 500 has honored the most innovative users of business technology,” said InformationWeek Editor-in-Chief Rob Preston. “Year after year, InformationWeek 500 companies harness technology to improve efficiency, boost productivity, drive revenue, and establish a competitive advantage. We applaud this year’s winners, and the CIOs and other executives whose ingenuity and risk taking are at the center of business technology innovation.”
