Southwire's Annual Toys for Tots Drive Shatters Record

Two-Day Community Drive Collects 6,150 Toys

(Carrollton, Ga.– December 16, 2008) – Southwire’s annual Toys for Tots drive collected a record-breaking number of toys this year, filling the company’s Project GIFT tractor trailer with 6,150 toys. That is the largest number of toys Southwire has collected since it began the annual toy collection, nearly doubling the previous record of 3,250 toys.

“With the economic recession, the number of families needing help this year is much larger than it has been in many years,” said Gary Leftwich, Southwire’s director of corporate communication. “It’s amazing to see the spirit of generosity in our county displayed once again. We collected about twice as many toys as we expecte., which will help bring smiles to hundreds of children this Christmas. Southwire is proud to be part of a community that cares so much about helping friends and neighbors.”

Leftwich thanked cosponsors of the toy drive, which included The Times-Georgian, Gradick Communications, New Leaf Marketing and the Carrollton Evening Sertoma Club for their contributions to this years’ event. Southwire also thanks Met Life, Partners Benefit Group, LLC and American Sign Depot for their help.

“We couldn’t pull this event off every year without our sponsors,” said Mandy Harris, Southwire’s Project GIFT coordinator. “They have really enabled us to take this toy drive to the next level by giving their time and resources. And of course, we owe tremendous thanks to members of the community as well. We had a steady stream of residents coming by all day Thursday and Friday to donate toys. Even just one or two toys from each person added up to go a long way.”

All toys were delivered to the nearby Toys For Tots collection center, where they will be sorted, bagged and distributed to families of Carroll and Heard counties.
